Charlotte Smith, Elegiac Sonnets, and Other Poems. Volume II, beginning at sonnet 60, was published in 1797, with the assurance that the author cannot be accused of "feigning sorrow for [the sake of seizing] an opportunity of shewing the pathos with which it can be described." This collection went through 10 editions in 17 years, appearing in a two-volume edition in 1800 illustrated with engravings by Thomas Stothard.
