Event:

The Rev. William Taylor, schoolmaster at Hawkshead School (attended by William Wordsworth), dies at age 32. The epitaph on his tombstone in Cartmel Priory, which Wordsworth later mentions at a pivotal moment in The Prelude, 10.495-99, is adapted from the last four lines of Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard."
